R & B star Jane Handcock is bringing the soul back into R&B.
Handcock who released “Where’s Jane? Series 2,” features the song “90’s Love.” I had the chance to interview the R & B songstress to discuss her latest EP and her love for 90’s R & B music.
Handcock who is a Oakland Native started singing at the precious age of three-years-old. The Oakland Native attended Oakland School for the Arts. Handcock described her mother as always being supportive of her talent and music aspirations.
Handcock talked about writing one of her first songs at the tender age of sixteen. Handcock has written for ex-Destiny Child singer Kelly Rowland. She’s been referred to as a “musical medium” by R&B legend Raphael Saadiq, who executive produced her first two mix-tapes. Handcock sights artist such as, Mary J. Blige, Teena Marie, Missy Elliot, Stevie Wonder, and Bob Marley among her musical influences.
Listening to Ms. Handcock share her love of 90’s R & B, I could not help but, smile because 90’s R&B is one of my favorite Genres so many talented artist came out during this period and made classic albums (My Life, N.E Heartbreak, Forever My Lady).
Ms. Handcock explains, “The 90s had us feeling more authentic, it was cool to be vulnerable, it was cool to be really into the person that you’re into. At the end of the day, I want the type of love that I saw in the 90s. Touche’ Ms. Handcock.
