R Kelly is a musical genius. He is a musician, writer, and singer. He consistently puts out great music. Kelly has continued to tour, release albums, and collaborate with artists like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Lady Gaga. R Kelly the artist is multifaceted. However the question for me is who is Robert Kelly the man. Kelly has a known sordid history of accusations of alleged abuse. In 1994 he allegedly illegally wed his protege, 15-year-old R&B singer Aaliyah, only to have the marriage annulled by her parents in February 1995. (Both Kelly and Aaliyah dodged questions about their marriage and their romantic relationship). Kelly also produced Aaliyah’s 1994 debut album, Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number. A new report by BuzzFeed claims that Kelly has been holding young women against their will on his properties near Atlanta and Chicago, creating a “cult”-like situation according to some of the women’s parents. Three female former members of his entourage reportedly corroborated the tales of abuse, which include Kelly dictating the way the women eat, sleep, dress, and bathe; giving them phones only to be used to contact him; beating them when they speak to other men; and filming their sexual encounters with him.
