BET Digital is turning back time to R&B and hip-hop’s prized era with a new original docu-series, ‘Finding’ which is based on the long-lost talents of the ‘90s and early 2000s industry scene. I was excited to see Nivea was going to be featured on Finding. She was hot during the 90’s, but then sorta fell off the music scene. She is now more known for having children with Lil Wayne and The Dream.
Nivea appeared on Mystikal’s hit single “Danger (Been So Long)” which garnered her some buzz. Following the success of it, she had signed with Jive Records and released her debut solo single “Don’t Mess with the Radio” in 2001 which garnered moderate success, peaking at #90 on the Hot 100 and #85 on R&B.
In August 2002, she released her second U.S. single, “Don’t Mess with My Man” featuring Brian and Brandon Casey (of R&B group Jagged Edge). The single was a big hit, peaking at #8 on the Hot 100 at #25 on R&B, fueling album sales of her debut. The following year, “Don’t Mess with My Man” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
For its debut premiere on Friday (September 21), Finding uncovers the burgeoning career of R&B singer Nivea during the peak of urban music’s 21st century. Finding explores Nivea’s intimate coupledom-turned-co-parenting with two of music’s biggest names, Lil Wayne and The-Dream, the cold-shouldering label politics that dampened her career, and the ultimate blessings she sacrificed it all for: motherhood.
